Nata – labels for carbonated beverages
Challenge
Nata Minerale enlisted us to revitalize its carbonated beverage portfolio, focusing on label designs for classics like Cola, Tonic, Orangeade, and Cit.
The carbonated beverage market, which suffered lately from rising raw material costs and the sugar tax, poses challenges of heightened competition and elevated consumer expectations. Amidst these challenges, manufacturers must effectively communicate the unique appeal of their products. Our design mission aimed to differentiate and capture the essence of each beverage variant.
Solution
We identified the low legibility of the product name as the weakest point in the existing labels. The large Nata logo dominated the beverages, leaving little room for the subtitle indicating the flavor. We decided to change that.
The second challenge was finding a suitable font that would allow us to clearly display both the short name CIT and a longer name like ORANGEADE.
Process
One of the many challenges we face when designing labels for bottled beverages is the insufficient space left for label application. This is due to the desire of bottle manufacturers and designers to achieve an interesting and unconventional form. Such an approach significantly complicates label design.
Fortunately, Nata decided to change the bottles, providing us with a much larger canvas for the design. A large label area is advantageous for manufacturers, as it allows them to better utilize shelf space in stores.
